Photo Friday Challenge #4

I can't believe I have already been doing this photo challenge for 4 weeks! I am having so much fun :)

This weeks challenge is all about 'shoes' - you can check out all the details on Carly's blog, including the lovely photos by the other participants.

I found my sons work boots outside against the front of the house. I just loved the texture of the brick and the frayed and worn leather. I also think the paint splatters and scuff marks add interest to the photo.

Since I am using this challenge as a learning tool, I played around a bit in Photoshop and boosted the colours a bit - I would be invested to know which photo you prefer?

Why don't you grab your camera and join us!

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge 26 Jan - 8 Feb

Hi there!

It's time for a brand new SPARKS challenge!

Check out the inspiration photo that Kim has picked out for the challenge.

I found the perfect paper in my stash - it is Stampin Up I believe, the first patterned paper I ever bought and I finally found a use for it :)

I actually used three different sets for this card - the little bird is from 'My Peeps', the party hat is from 'Party Posse' (it is two separate stamps) and the sentiment is from 'Word Salad'.

Why don't you join us, I would love to see how you use the inspiration. If you don't have any Paper Smooches stamps, grab one of the free digi stamps here.

You can find all the details of the challenge on the blog and check out the other DT projects too :)

Cheers

Jay Gee's Nook Design Team

Hello and welcome to another Design Team post. I have some fabulous cards to share today, but first a reminder about our current challenge - you can find all the details here. You still have plenty of time to play and the inspiration is so gorgeous.

Lets start off with this fun card from Ange - I just love the rainbow of pencils in the jar. The stamps used are from 'Brilliant' by Hero Arts/Basic Grey and the sentiment on the flag is from 'Fruitastic' by Paper Smooches.

Next, we have a fabulous tag, perfect for a male birthday.  Iwona has used the fun 'Birthday Noteblock' from Purple Onion Designs.  Love all the extra little details on this tag.

From masculine to girly - this gorgeous card by Angeline is definitely one for the girls.  The wonderful sentiment is from 'Many Thanks' by Lawn Fawn.

I love this sweet card from Joy and that adorable image, which is so beautifully coloured. This is 'Puddles of Love' from Gorjuss.

I just adore all the images in Paper Smooches 'Party Posse' set, especially this cute little guy.  I saw a similar card idea on the Paper Smooches blog and just had to make my own version.

Enjoy whats left of your weekend :)

Photo Friday Challenge #3

Hello

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for all the lovely comments that have been left for me lately - it is so appreciated :)

Ok... today starts a new challenge over at Carly's blog for the Photo Friday Challenge - the theme this week is 'pocket light'.

Now I must admit I had no idea how to go about this, so I went straight to Google for some ideas. I waited until it was dark, dragged my daughter outside so she could hold the torch and took these photos. I am pretty happy with how they turned out and hope I have understood 'pocket light' correctly :)

Perhaps I needed a little more light for better detail? I think it would have looked better if the foliage wasn't so out of focus.

Here is a close up. I love how it looks like there is a flower inside the flower.

Thanks so much for looking and if you have any tips, fire away!

Happy Birthday

Hi there!

I am so happy tomorrow is Friday - I am looking forward to getting my hair done and then having a nice relaxing weekend :)

Today I wanted to share this card I made for a friends birthday. This stamp is called 'Fashionably Wrapped' by Penny Black and the stamp actually has this lovely lady holding a bouquet of holly. By masking or in this case cutting it off, this stamp becomes more versatile and is perfect for birthdays!

My fashionable lady was coloured with copics and cut out separately. The present is patterned paper from Basic Grey and the ribbon was coloured with distress inks.

Thanks so much for stopping by - I really appreciate your visit :)

Jane's Doodles

Hello.

Ahhh... I started back at work this week and I am exhausted already! Amazing how soft 5 weeks off made me :)

I have a quick little card to share using one of Jane's Doodles gorgeous free digis - you can find them here on their blog. I printed this one on blue card stock and then drew on the extra swirls on the arms and all the polka dots for added interest. The chair cushion was paper pieced and I went over the entire image with copics to add a few shadows.

That gorgeous swirl I found on the internet - I am sorry but I don't remember where :( The sentiment is from Jane's Doodles 'Big Sentiment' set.

Thanks so much fro stopping by :)

Photo Friday Challenge #2

So, Carly has posted the second theme for the Photo Friday Challenge - Sparkle. She has taken the most beautiful pictures of her girls with their great big eyes sparkling away. Crikey! (it's "An expression of astonishment") :) Talk about intimidating!

My kids are in their late teens... I have a hard enough time getting to see them let alone making them sit still for a photo these days :) I was a bit stumped for an idea until it started to rain... the first time in weeks! We live in the Tropics and it is usually hot and sunny. Anyway, I grabbed the camera and after lots of trial and error, finally came away with this.

Now I did play around in Photoshop trying different things. Since I am treating this Photo challenge as a learning activity, I would be really interested in your comments and any tips you might have :)

Thanks for stopping by.

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge 12 Jan - 25 Jan

Yay! I am happy to say that today, a new Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge begins :)

Kim has chosen another fantastic inspiration photo full of so many design possibilities.

Here is my take... I couldn't go past those polka dots :) I also took inspiration from the lamp. I might just give this card to my DH for valentines... it kind of matches my nick name for him :)  Stamp sets used are Perpetual Bliss and Falling for you and the sentiment was done on the computer.

We would love it if you played along with us. Don't worry if you have no Paper Smooches stamps - Kim offers free digital stamps here.

Please check out the challenge blog to see all the creations by the rest of the Design Team - you will also find a full list of rules and details about the fabulous prizes.

Cheers

Something A Little Different

One of my goals this year is to improve my photography skills... I have a very nice camera but don't know how to use it other than the basic point and shoot!  So when one of my favourite bloggers Carly Robertson introduced a new photo challenge I decided to jump on board. You can find all the details of the challenge here. Carly takes the most beautiful photos and I am hoping to learn some tips from her.

The challenge is called 'Photo Friday Challenge', the idea being that each Friday (you actually have a week) you take a photo based on that weeks theme. Unfortunately for me, this first theme was a self portrait. Now, I know I am not alone in hating my photo being taken, but this was a real struggle to get anything that I felt remotely comfortable sharing... and I am sharing only to record my personal growth LOL. It has taken me 3 days and literally a 100 photos to get this.

I converted this to black and white in photoshop, (to hide some of the wrinkles), which I am hoping to learn more about too. I am hoping that Carly will tell us how she converted her picture because it is just dreamy. And a positive from all this struggle - I actually learnt how to use the self timer on my camera. Way to go me!

Cheers

Sunday = Design Team Post

Hi there, it's time for another Design Team post and everyone is back today - yay!

We are starting the show with this stunning card from Angeline. Simple perfection!  The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn's 'Many Thanks' set.

Isn't this card just gorgeous! Ange has used this MME patterned paper to perfection... love the brads, stitching and distressing.

I am really loving all the breast cancer support stamps that have been released lately - such an important message to share. This sweet image from My Favorite Things is set off beautifully on Iwona's fabulous card.

Joy has made a fabulous tag using some new goodies from Hero Arts. She used the Newspaper Eiffel Tower stamp for the main image. The heart is a Die-namics die, 'Hearts a plenty' and it's finished off with some Mr Huey's mist and twine.

I don't know about you, but patterned paper scares me! I love to look at it, but when it comes to using more that one piece, I have no idea how to mix and match. Today's card was a challenge to myself and although very simple, I did use 3 different papers for this card :) The style is cased from the fabulous Courtney Kelley.

The scalloped border is a Die-namics die, the bird is from Jane's Doodles 'Garden Friends' and the sentiment is from Paper Smooches 'Word Salad'.

LOL, I hope you are still with us after all that. Next week we will have a new challenge for you, so make sure you come back.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful Sunday :)

A Double CASE

Hello

This card is a combination of me casing a couple of designers. First the style is very much Carly Robertson, who I just adore (she had several cards published in the recent 365 Cards, by Paper Crafts) and this card from Cristina which I thought was fantastic!

The gorgeous gingham paper and the 'burglar' stamp are from A Muse and the sentiment was done on the computer. The heart bling is from Hero Arts.

Well, I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. Thanks for stopping by :)

My Favorite Things

The New Year is racing ahead already, I do wish things would slow down a bit :)

I have a card to share using this adorable Pure Innocence stamp from My Favorite Things called 'Don't Open Until'. I love the sentiments in this set too - the 'your birthday' is a separate stamp and can be switched out for 'Christmas'. There is also another great sentiment that comes with the set.

For this card I used my favourite technique, paper piecing.

I appreciate you stopping by and all your lovely comments :)

Jay Gee's Nook Design Team

Hello and Happy New Year :)

I am back today with a Design Team post for you - we are not quite all back, Ange and Angeline are still on holidays.

Iwona has such a wonderful talent for mixing pattern paper - something I really struggle with! This lovely image and sentiment are both from Jane's Doodles 'Pretty Peonies' set.

Joy has used some new Hero Arts stamps for this fantastic masculine card. I love the embossed clock and the houndstooth is so gorgeous!

For my card, I used this adorable 'Little Miss Mia' stamp from Jane's Doodles - she is so lovely. I coloured her with copics.

Once again, thanks so much for taking the time to stop by :)
